Torin Blankensmith

Torin Blankensmith is a Brooklyn-based audiovisual artist, creative technologist, and educator who creates and performs custom audiovisual instruments. Drawing inspiration from patterns in nature, he combines audio synthesis, computer graphics, and machine learning to create expressive systems for improvisation and live performance. His work transforms sound, movement, and data into immersive experiences, installations, and audiovisual performances.
Since 2020, Torin has taught at Parsons School of Design and currently teaches at NYU’s graduate program, where his courses explore interactive media, and creative coding. He also develops open-source tools and educational resources used by hundreds of thousands of creators.
Torin co-founded DATLAB, a New York community hosting monthly events, workshops, and audiovisual performances. He’s developed audiovisual performances with the musical director of SNL, and created stage visuals for Florence & The Machine. His work has been presented at SIGGRAPH Asia, Art Basel’s Beyond Basel, VIDEOCITTÀ in Rome, TouchDesigner NY & Berlin and MUTEK Japan.
