Hassan El Shafei
original judges on the hit competition “Arab Idol.” Recording as the Saint in the '90s, he broke into electronica with "My Ecstasy" in 2000, then spent years as an award-winning producer for stars including Nancy Ajram, Amr Diab, Angham, and Sherine. He founded the genre-blending The Basement Records in 2010. In 2014 he was the only Arab artist on Pepsi Beats of the Beautiful Game, alongside Timbaland, Santigold, and Janelle Monáe, and released the summer hit "Mayestahlushi." More recently he was a lead producer on Coke Studio Egypt 2023 and scored a Handball World Championship anthem in Qatar. A lifelong student of everything from classical to metal, El Shafei fuses electronic production with Arabic pop, hip-hop, and orchestral textures — working at the intersection of sound design and songwriting, and treating the studio itself as an instrument.
